The Dutch national team will win this summer's FIFA World Cup, that's according to a market strategist at Panmure Liberum who claims to have successfully predicted the last three tournaments.

It's a bold outsider call that runs against the betting market and sets up what the broker says would be one of the tournament’s biggest shocks.

The market strategist, Joachim Klement, who says he correctly forecast Germany in 2014, France in 2018 and Argentina in 2022, says his statistical model points to the Netherlands lifting the trophy in a final against Portugal.

Klement says his model blends socioeconomic inputs, including GDP per capita, population, temperature, host-country advantage and FIFA ranking points. He estimates it explains about 55% of World Cup success, with the remaining 45% left to luck.

The Panmure man also predicts Japan will knock out Brazil in the round of 32 which he describes as “likely one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history”.

en 2022 de derde WK-deelname.

Makkelie was in 2018 in Rusland actief
als videoscheidsrechter en vier jaar
later floot hij in Qatar twee duels in
de groepsfase.

Memphis Depay faces race against time for World Cup after fresh injury
Memphis Depay has suffered a setback in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup. The Dutch forward’s rehabilitation has been pushed back by two weeks after an error by Corinthians’ medical team, according to Brazilian outlets such as O Globo.

During his recovery, Depay took on a gym exercise prematurely. This misstep caused the 32-year-old ex-PSV forward to reinjure his right thigh in the closing stage of his rehabilitation.

After picking up an injury on March 22 against Flamengo, Depay was sidelined for the Netherlands’ friendlies with Norway and Ecuador. Although he briefly joined the squad, head coach Ronald Koeman made it clear in a one-on-one talk that only peak fitness will allow him to contribute to the team at the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Scheidsrechter Rob Dieperink in Londens hotel gearresteerd
AMSTERDAM/LONDEN - Scheidsrechter en internationaal Video Assistant Referee (VAR) Rob Dieperink is in Engeland in opspraak geraakt. De Nederlander, die op 9 april de VAR was tijdens het heenduel van de kwartfinale in de Conference League tussen Crystal Palace en Fiorentina (3-0), werd na de wedstrijd in een hotel in Londen aangehouden op verdenking van aanranding van een minderjarige jongen (17) en nog twee delicten.

Vier dagen na het verhoor op 9 april – zo blijkt uit de correspondentie – gaf de Londense politie aan geen verdere actie te ondernemen op de eerste twee aanklachten. Dat was Dieperink de dag na het verhoor mondeling al kenbaar gemaakt. Het verdere onderzoek richtte zich op de aanranding. Op 24 april, zo valt te lezen, meldde de politie ook deze zaak te seponeren wegens een gebrek aan bewijs. Wat Dieperink lijkt te hebben geholpen, is het feit dat hij na zijn arrestatie onmiddellijk zijn telefoon en laptop afgaf, omdat hij niets zou hebben te verbergen. Daardoor gingen direct de eerste twee aanklachten van tafel en uiteindelijk dus ook nummer drie.

Het nieuws over de arrestatie van zijn werknemer sloeg bij de KNVB in als een bom, omdat Dieperink ook nog eens de vaste VAR is van Team Makkelie, dat komende maand op het WK actief is. De wereldvoetbalbond FIFA zette een streep door de naam van Dieperink, omdat de FIFA alleen officials van onbesproken gedrag wil. Dinsdag werd al bekend dat de Fransman Willy Delajod ver na de bekendmaking van de WK-lijst alsnog als VAR is toegevoegd.

De eerste wedstrijd is 10 uur dan 7 uur en de derde wedstrijd om 1 uur in de nacht goede tijden voor de horeca haha..
